Cozaar is an oral medication primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also used to prevent strokes and protect kidney function. The FDA approved Cozaar for prescription use in the United States in 1995. Before that point, it had already been used in Sweden and the UK. Once it became available in the U.S., it quickly became one of the highest-selling hypertension medications on the market. Merck owned the patent for Cozaar until August 2009. What Is Cozaar?
