There are a couple of different uses for sildenafil citrate, but it’s most commonly known for its treatment of erectile dysfunction in men. Sildenafil citrate belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors that help increase blood flow to the penis.
However, there are other uses for generic sildenafil citrate, such as a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension, or PAH. PAH happens when the vessels that carry blood to the lungs experience high blood pressure, which can cause shortness of breath, dizziness, and fatigue. If you experience these symptoms, ask your doctor if sildenafil citrate might be right for you. It works by relaxing blood vessels in the lungs, allowing blood to flow more freely.
